Welcome to the Connecticut Folly 2013 version.
I do not have enough hours in the day to write about all of the economic issues and ethical issues Connecticut faces in 2013. Nor can I draw a blind eye to the massive waste of taxpayers monies which continue to occur each day.
The new massive gun bureaucracy that is going to be rammed through Hartford's One Party Rule along with the meek Republicans who are voting for it will do little to improve safety for any resident. From what I can understand from the bill (and good luck anyone actually understanding a bill passed in Hartford), the state has created a new layer of laws, rules to be enforced by state workers? And how are those state workers going to be chosen? How much is this actually going to cost both gun owners and taxpayers? What happened to the public hearings on the bill? Apparently there were just for show.
And most importantly how will this bill actually help to prevent violent crimes with illegal guns from happening? No answers on that one from Hartford's One Party Rule. Thus a new bureaucracy forms until the next mass violent outbreak and then yet another newer bureaucracy forms.
In my economic opinion if we actually had laws that were enforced to penalize and incarcerate criminals not the victims then we would have a safer state, sort of like having a death penalty when you murder someone.
But alas this is Connecticut's Folly 2013 version.
And could someone tell me what is being done about the state debt and the state economy?
Wow the silence really sickens me as a taxpayer.

What Happened To The State Economy?
I do not know since all the news that is coming out of Hartford is on gun restrictions and legislation to that effect. I also do not feel that it is going to make a difference as someone who wishes to engage in an illegal activity with a gun because they will obtain one probably through an illegal manner. Nor we as law abiding citizens will feel more protected by all of this legislation.
Those who own a gun legally do not cause crimes in my economic opinion.
But then what happened to Connecticut's economy?
I guess it does not matter what happened to Connecticut's economy since the only item that is important in Hartford is taking away guns especially from law abiding citizens. The economy really is not important in the Hartford's One Party Rule scheme of things. They can just continue to raise taxes on those who owns businesses and work in our state and not worry about it. Debt does not exist in their vocabulary. If any member of Hartford's One Party Rule loses an election (which rarely happens) or gets convicted of a crime, they can be reemployed as either a high ranking state employee/official or better yet as a lobbyist.

More Connecticut Garbage
More garbage coming out of Hartford . It does not seem to end.
HB6550 is a beauty to come out of Hartford 's One Party Rule; this section is
taken out of the bill-guess who will pay these new taxes-anyone who uses
heating oil or propane
Sec. 3. (NEW) (Effective July 1, 2013) (a) An excise tax per gallon of heating oil and propane, each as defined in section 1 of this act, is hereby imposed in the following amounts on the following dates, upon all persons licensed to sell such fuel under the provisions of section 16a-23m of the general statutes: (1) One and one-half cents per gallon on or after July 1, 2013, but before July 1, 2014; (2) two and one-half cents per gallon on or after July 1, 2014, but before July 1, 2015; and (3) three and one-half cents per gallon on or after July 1, 2015, provided no excise tax shall be imposed on such fuel used by vessels, railroad, utilities, farmers and the military or such fuel sold for purposes other than for residential heating or domestic hot water.
(b) Each such licensee shall, not later than the first business day of the second month next following the date on which such tax is imposed, file with the Commissioner of Revenue Services, on forms prescribed by said commissioner, a report that shall show the number of gallons of fuel in inventory as of the close of business on the date on which such tax is imposed, or at midnight of such date, and at the same time shall pay such tax based upon the total gallonage shown on such report. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection shall cooperate with the Commissioner of Revenue Services in the enforcement of this tax. Failure to file such report and pay the tax when due shall be sufficient reason to revoke any state license or permit held by such person and interest at the rate of one per cent per month or fraction thereof shall be assessed on the amount of such tax not paid when due, from the date such tax becomes due to the date of payment.

Federal Budget Differences-Paul Ryan Wins
I am curious if Mr. Obama realizes that he needs to put forth a Federal budget each year?
Apparently he needs a few more weeks to gather his plan to raise spending and raise taxes. From what I have been reading the Senate is actually being forced to put forth a budget after missing just the last four years in creating one. No big deal, the excessive, bloated and wasteful Federal spending continued for the past four years with no budget. The Senate's new proposal calls for a mere $1 trillion dollars in new taxes, does not balance the budget and will create even more spending and more National Debt. Thus after four years this was the best the Democrats in the Senate could develop. Amazing.
Representative Paul Ryan has developed a budget which will actually balance the budget, cut spending and reform both Medicare and Medicaid. For those who actually understand Medicare and Medicaid one sees that they are both basically bankrupt and unsustainable in their current form. His budget plan also defunds the economically irrational and unsustainable Obamacare health plan. Mr. Ryan has created a monumental reform of Federal spending which in my economic opinion will actually start to address our massive budget deficits and National Debt. Both which are economically unsustainable in their current form.
Thus the battle begins across the country. Mr.Obama will again use taxpayers monies to travel to campaign for his plans and programs (whatever they may be?) and belittle and condemn the Republican plan. The media in lock step with Obama will rip to shreds this economically logical budget. And we will see more of the same.
I applaud Representative Ryan and his budget. He sees the future and wants to address it. He is proactive economically. And in my economic opinion he will win with his budget, not the stale tax and spend policies/non budgets of a Democrat party who have no idea of economic reality in 2013.

Malloy's budget shifts his new Hartford's One Party Rule taxes to municipalities in Connecticut by cutting all sorts of funding-I guess he forgot he used to be mayor of Stamford. The gun debate rages on in Hartford, what is missing in the entire debate is how Hartford's One Party Rule plans on protecting law abiding citizens from those who will still get guns illegally. 120,000 illegal and undocumented aliens will soon be on a path to getting driver's licenses in the state of Connecticut thanks to Martin Looney and Hartford's One Party Rule. The proposed law which has the blessings of Hartford's One Party Rule will allow these illegals the ability to get licenses in the state. The argument is that it will make our roads safer, supposedly save $20 million in insurance costs, etc. I am wondering what part of illegal does Hartford's One Party Rule not understand? Maybe when get their licenses they can register to vote, be given free medical care by the state, etc. Maybe legal citizen taxpayers should stop paying their legal taxes if this law goes into effect. Let Us All Sequester! Let Us All Cut Spending!
Let us all sequester.
Let us all cut spending.
But do not cut my federal budget-raises taxes instead!
The economic stupidity taxpayers listen to every day.
I guess with coming sequester, the Federal governments supposed $80 billion dollars plus in cuts will amazingly impact our entire nation in every program, every job in every program and everything our government does. A mere 2% cut in spending will impact a multi-trillion dollar budget in this manner is astounding economic news to me! If a 2% cut is going to do that much damage why don't we try 5 or even a 10% cut in spending-actually a 2% cut is what the Obama Administration did to every American who works for a living through higher Social Security taxes that went into effect this January. So why can't they cut 2% and be done with it? Politics at its best. Especially since there is no compromise allowed with the Obama Administration on any piece of legislation. Especially with the budget and the lack of it by the Senate.

New Tolls, More Taxes, More Spending=Connecticut's Mantra
More taxes.
More spending.
New tolls.
Higher deficits.
Higher unfunded liabilities.
More of the same.
It seems to me that Hartford's One Party Rule is economically challenged. It continues the same failed theories and policies. More taxes, more spending and higher deficits. Add to that now new tolls which will further cripple our state economy. The economic logic astounds me. Especially since there never any mention of a austerity and budget cutting package introduced by Hartford's One Party Rule. The Democratic party is truly economically challenged in our state.

So what is the solution? It is simplistic but will not be allowed by Hartford's One Party Rule. Spending across the board needs to be cut by 8-10%. State employment needs to be reduced on both sides of the aisle, both in management and union employees. Business taxes need to be reduced to attract new businesses, industries and jobs to the state. Austerity measures across the board need to be implemented immediately down to the saving of even one penny at this time. Will this ever happen? No especially since State employee retiree medical benefits have increased by a mere 1395% since 1990 according to a recent CBIA report.

The Governor's Economic Nightmare
I wonder if Governor Malloy actually lives in Connecticut? I know he travels a great deal at taxpayers expense and really wonder if he lives here. After reading his budget proposal and actually trying to understand it, I think I can summarize it with two words: economic nightmare.
There is a one billion dollar budget deficit. Spending is increased. Taxes are raised again at a local level with the supposed elimination of the property tax on vehicles. Along this same tax cut your state income taxes also go up due to the elimination of the vehicle property tax credit. And when all the smoke clears we still have a one billion dollar budget deficit. Along with $80 billion dollars in unfunded liabilities.

Are there any economic priorities coming out of Hartford? I really do not see any. There are the usual amount of new and improved bills which are there to control yet another aspect of our lives or take away another personal freedom. Let Us Spend More, Let Us Tax More, Let Us Borrow More, Let Us Have Four More Years Of An Economic Debacle

Let us have four more years of an economic debacle.
The Obama economic solutions to every problem is simplistic in nature.
It is:
Let us spend more.
Let us tax more.
Let us borrow more.
And it has failed our economy more and more.
Those who work and pay taxes in our economy are apparently not doing enough to help solve the Obama economic debacle now in the fifth year. The National Debt has increased almost 60% over the past four years. Real wage growth is non existent. Twenty three million Americans are out of work. Millions more have given up trying to find work at all. Unemployment compensation costs are staggering to businesses and state governments. Our work force participation rate is at an all time low. And the Obama economic debacle plan is to force more out of work with a $9 an hour minimum wage along with yet even newer and higher payroll taxes. We can no longer spend taxpayer's monies that do not exist to any level of prosperity. Inflation is right around the corner with the irrational Federal Reserve policies of creating valueless money out of thin air. The actual costs of Obamacare will be staggering to our economy. The list of irrational economic policies is endless. The economic grandstanding continues.
We need to advance sensible economic policies in our economy. Government at all levels has proven time and time again that it is ill equipped to solve economic problems. The massive size of government at all levels has created economic harm. The path to economic growth and economic freedom is to make government at all levels smaller. A contraction in its size would help to lower spending which would in turn lower taxes. Less governmental jobs at all levels. Gone will be the days of $150,000 a year do nothing managers for example. And gone will be the current economic debacle that our country has turned into. We need less government not more.
But instead we have more spending, more taxing, more borrowing, more, more more. To me it is a bleak economic future.

The State Budget-Much Ado About Nothing
A famous politician once said "We have nothing to fear but fear itself", he was also a liberal Democrat. Here in Connecticut and echoing from the bowels of Hartford is fear. And we as taxpayers and businesses need to fear it. The fear comes in the form of Mr. Malloy's new budget. As in typical lobbying, egotistical and economically irrational pomp and circumstance we will hear of all of these supposed budget cuts, shared sacrifices, and even new and higher spending for pick a program any program. We will see yet even higher state spending and down the road even more state borrowing, more and higher taxes and yet even more unfunded liabilities which have been kicked down the road.
Oops. But it will become another Governors problem in a few years.
What is another $200 million for corporate welfarism in the guise to bring more "biotech jobs" to the state. What is another $1.5 billion for UConn? What is another an additional $152 million over two years to the Education Cost Sharing grant? We are looking another mere $2 billion dollars being borrowed with what will amount to be more failures and more taxes. With no results.
The economically draining One Party Rule in Hartford's game plan has grown stale. It is just more economic rhetoric. We will hear of this great budget. And we will continue to read Connecticut being last in all so many economic categories.

Connecticut's Economic Depression
In my economic opinion Connecticut is in an economic depression of its own making. For many years now the irrational economic policies of Hartford's One Party Rule have taken a great economic toll on the state.
We have seen a mass migration of taxpayers, citizens and our youth flee the state over the past twenty years. We have seen a constant increase in taxes in our state. We have seen our jobs base erode severely. We have seen state social welfare spending increase dramatically-plus an addition 800 more non profit agencies helping those in need in the state. We do not develop business or industry in our state. Excessive taxation, excessive workers compensation costs and a failed transportation infrastructure will not attract business even with Hartford's One Party Rule brand of corporate welfarism in place. We have a massive amount of long term unfunded liabilities - $80 billion dollars and growing - with no end in sight.
We are in a Hartford's One Party Rule economic depression. A depression made by government that is purely irrational in economic terms and policies. Guess what- Hartford's One Party Rule economic policies do not work nor will the Malloy state budget work either. More spending, more taxes, more debt and deficits. Hartford's One Party Rule owns it.
We have seen a mass migration of taxpayers, citizens and our youth flee the state over the past twenty years. We have seen a constant increase in taxes in our state. We have seen our jobs base erode severely. We have seen state social welfare spending increase dramatically-plus an addition 800 more non profit agencies helping those in need in the state. We do not develop business or industry in our state. Excessive taxation, excessive workers compensation costs and a failed transportation infrastructure will not attract business even with Hartford's One Party Rule brand of corporate welfarism in place. We have a massive amount of long term unfunded liabilities - $80 billion dollars and growing - with no end in sight.
We are in a Hartford's One Party Rule economic depression. A depression made by government that is purely irrational in economic terms and policies. Guess what- Hartford's One Party Rule economic policies do not work nor will the Malloy state budget work either. More spending, more taxes, more debt and deficits. Hartford's One Party Rule owns it.

Why Raise The Minimum Wage? Why Put More Out Of Work?
Connecticut's One Party Rule in Hartford never ceases to amaze me with their lack of knowledge of whats left of our state economy. The new twist is to raise the minimum wage to $9. and then to $9.75 in another year.
The minimum wage is floor or minimum that workers legally get in exchange for their labor. It is a wage rate that is usually given to those with little or no work skills-for those who enter the labor market for the first time. Much to the opposite of the One Party Rule in Hartford thought process, you are not able to support a family of four on it nor was it the original intention of the minimum wage for one to do so.
This is where liberal economists and equally liberal politicians who buy their votes come into play. By constantly raising the minimum wage the costs of doing business and the products and services that are being sold go up. And we as consumers pay more for everything because of it. And those who make minimum wage still can not afford to support a family of four with an additional $30 a week less taxes. It is not economically feasible to do so. They too will now pay higher prices for all goods and services in the state.
In my economic opinion one can increase their wages through the greater knowledge, skills and education during their work careers. Liberal politicians do not understand this because many have never held a productive job in their lives nor understand how our economy works. It will help the further decline of our state economy.

Connecticut, Taxes and Tolls
Taxes and Connecticut go hand in hand. Our one party dictatorship in Hartford seems never to have enough money to spend. Money to spend on laws and programs approved by special interest lobbying groups who pay their way in our Legislature. Money to spend for layer upon layer of important and economically inefficient state jobs. Money to spend for unlimited social welfare programs. Money to spend for unlimited corporate welfare (but for only who lobby for it-not for small business owners). The list they love to spend taxpayer's money on is endless. It is like to the point of no return or possibly now chronic budget deficits both long and short term.
The next tax brainstorm coming out of one party rule is to bring back tolls. I remember tolls very well. I used to avoid them at all costs driving on Route 1 at all times when I used to live in North Branford. Tolls were mainly on I-95 in Madison, Branford, West Haven, Stratford, and several other spots on the highway. It was ridiculous. And then something happened-people died at the tolls in Stratford and the actual outcry forced the state to eliminate them. Thus we have no tolls in Connecticut. Lives were actually saved.
But all that can change. And our dictatorship is chomping at the bit to bring them back. This new revenue source would help them to spend even more money. It would be a windfall for Hartford to tax and spend even more than they do already. And look at all of the unionized politically connected jobs they could create with tolls! It would definitely be a win-win for our one party rule.
Thus if it moves tax it, if it is lobbied enact it and if it slams our taxpayers even more just do it.

Lobbying and Connecticut
Lobbying and Connecticut. The two go hand in hand. Sort of like a pimp with his prostitutes. According to the article $67.9 million dollars has gone to influence peddling here in our state. Not bad. It is also $67.9 million dollars that taxpayers like you and I can not afford to spend to influence legislators who we supposedly vote into office to seek representation, truth and ethics in state government. Influence peddling? Could this influence peddling have helped to create one of the highest taxed states in the country? Could this influence peddling have helped to create the worse state credit quality in the country? Could this influence have helped to create the worse state debt situation in the country? Could this influence have helped to create our state to be the worse to retire in the country? Could this influence have helped to create the largest achievement gap in education in the country? The list to me is endless. And it is totally non productive money spent by organizations whose only concern in the state is their self interest, self promotion and self satisfaction. All at taxpayer's expense.
Lobbying in my economic opinion is yet another cancer within our economy which inhibits economic growth. Your tax monies are being used against your own free will and in most cases creating a negative economic situation for you and your families. Prices for many goods become artificially higher due in lobbying influence costs added such as price supports and price floors. The corporate subsidization with taxpayers monies do little for job growth nor job creation.
Thus as we can see through Connecticut's lobbyists along with one party rule in Hartford that we as taxpayers have no rights and we have absolutely no say in our government.

State of the State-More Rhetoric, More Taxes, More Spending
More, more, more. Mr. Malloy will give Connecticut his third State of the State speech today. As much he wants to believe that he is, was and will be the greatest Governor Connecticut has ever had, we will hear much of the same. We hear that his massive tax increases are working with a $1 Billion plus budget deficit. We hear that there will be massive cuts in state spending except for most agencies and employees. We will hear how he has handled with ease every crisis he has faced as Governor like no other in our state's history.
We will hear him deny the rumors of his appointment to some great and large position in Washington.
We will hear it all.
More, more, more.
What we will not hear is that Connecticut continues to be an economic mess in his third year of one party rule in Hartford. Fiscal Cliff=Another Tax Break For General Electric
Gee another tax break for General Electric. Gee it was placed in the fiscal cliff legislation. Gee we are going to pay more in taxes except for General Electric.
Christmas came early once again for General Electric at the expense of those evil taxpayers like you and I who work for a living. The "active financing exception" provision which was stuffed into the fiscal cliff legislation is a way for multinational corporations to defer paying taxes in our country by moving profits into their offshore financial subsidiaries. This is why General Electric avoids paying nearly all of their United States corporate income taxes at the expense of those evil taxpayers like you and I who work for a living. It is corporate greed and corporate welfare at its best.
And the best is that most of our Congress did not even read the bill they were voting which should help to explode the National Debt to well over $20 trillion dollars by the time Obama leaves office in 2016. And still no plan to address the National Debt except by raising taxes and increasing governmental spending.
I have no plans ever to purchase another product made by General Electric or their subsidiaries due to this corporate tax provision. I will no longer support them and or any of their products.
I am a taxpayer who has had enough of this sickening excess of our corporate tax structure and the equally economically inept Congress which allows it.

I would like to wish all my loyal readers a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year. Continue to try to strive to become debt free and enjoy economic freedom in your lifetime.
2013 will continue to be a time of economic turmoil with 537 individuals in Washington force feeding us more of the same stale tax and spend policies with the end result being even a higher National Debt that what we have today. And still no plan to pay off either or funded or unfunded National Debt. Ditto for those who rule Hartford.
To try something new such as austerity spending and savings does not exist in Washington or Hartford nor do I think it ever will in my lifetime.
I will leave you with some biblical inspiration:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”-Romans 15:13

Thursday's Thoughts
Several thoughts and questions for Thursday.
As far as fiscal cliff talks are concerned why isn't the focus on spending cuts, improving efficiency in government and the end to duplicate agencies/programs which do little to improve the economy or help people?
As far as state budget talks are concerned why isn't the focus on spending cuts, improving efficiency in government and the end to duplicate agencies/programs which do little to improve the economy or help people?
How do higher taxes improve an economy? How do higher taxes increase private sector spending?
How are jobs created in the private sector if there are no plans to explain governmental regulations and laws such as Obamacare until after they go into effect? And who pays for them? Any why?
What is the plan to pay off the $16 trillion dollar National Debt?
What is the plan to pay for the approximately $80 trillion dollars in federal unfunded liabilities?
What is the plan to pay for the approximately $40 billion dollars in Connecticut's unfunded liabilities?
Why has the cost of a college education skyrocketed in the past twenty years? My salaries teaching part time on a college level adjusted for inflation are less than what I was making when I started in 1982.
If I lose my right to protect myself and my family through either legal weapons or other forms of protection, how do I defend myself from an armed attack?
Just some random thoughts for today.

Connecticut+Wasted Spending=A Fiscal Nightmare
What no wasted spending in a $20 billion dollar budget? What is a $415 million dollar deficit? No nothing a little soda tax wouldn't do to create even more economic problems in the state.
I am still amazed that Connecticut does not waste any money in any way shape or form according to our leaders. I am also amazed that the only place to cut spending is in social welfare and education programs, two programs that we were told when we had the highest tax increase in our state's history would be saved and that needed to be saved. What a political lie.
What about the $115 million dollars of taxpayers monies that is being used for corporate welfare at its best to pay for a hedge fund to move from Westport to Stamford? Why is this money being spent especially since the CEO of this fund made a mere $3.9 billion dollars last year? Could it be political payback for the city that Malloy was Mayor in? What a waste of taxpayers monies!
What happened to the supposed $180 million dollars in supposed savings from the State Employee Suggestion Box? Apparently no suggestions were made.
Why are we paying $340,000 plus benefits for a head of the Community College System? What is his role and job if any? Aren't the individual Community Colleges run already by Presidents who make a great deal of money in the first place?
The list of waste of taxpayers monies is endless in Connecticut. And realistically there is no end in sight.

Inflation. It Is Coming.
What is Inflation? According to Investopedia http://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/inflation it is "The rate at which the general level of prices for goods and services is rising, and, subsequently, purchasing power is falling. Central banks attempt to stop severe inflation, along with severe deflation, in an attempt to keep the excessive growth of prices to a minimum."
Inflation in my economic opinion is coming. Inflation in my economic opinion is here already. The massive fluctuations in energy prices, food prices, greater and higher taxes along with massive increases in health care costs are already contributing to inflation. Our government dislikes inflation since it increases its borrowing costs to finance its massive National Debt. If you are a saver right now you are not getting any interest on your savings. You as a saver are subsidizing our governments excessive spending and National Debt. The Federal Reserve's constant free money policy will ultimately lead to a valueless dollar along with inflation.
Thus as higher taxes are being desired by Democrats in Washington, higher inflation will be a direct result. And we will not see any meaningful cuts in spending or entitlements for the future. The National Debt will keep increasing. The fiscal cliff will be achieved along with inflation. Good luck with dealing with this new economic debacle on the near horizon.
