Who Is Running Connecticut? Not Ned Lamont.

This past week was a somewhat very difficult reopening for some Connecticut businesses who were allowed to reopen.   Some Connecticut businesses have not been allowed to reopen yet and some have gone out of business for good.   It also was another week of non-resident Connecticut rule in Connecticut.  The Reopen Connecticut Advisory Committee has supposedly disbanded by the Governor's orders to be replaced apparently by the Boston Consulting Group.  The Boston Consulting Group will advise the state as to how they should reopen through its generous $2 million dollar no bid state contract it received by Ned Lamont.
The co-chair of ill fated and secret 50 member Reopen Connecticut Advisory Committee is an interesting example of a lack of transparency in our government.  For example, Indra Nooyr former CEO of Pepsi was chosen as Co-Chair of this Committee.  I wonder why?  In a state of over 3,500,000 people was she the best choice?   Her family has a home in Greenwich.  Does being a resident of Greenwich qualify one to be in this position?   She and her husband apparently own a luxury condo in Miami, Florida that is for sale (https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2675-S-Bayshore-Dr-PH-1-Miami-FL-33133/2090024211_zpid/).  The issue of this residence was brought to my attention by Tony DeAngelo, who is the Owner of Paragon Trust Company and also is a radio commentator with his segment "Ten Minutes With Tony"  heard on on the Lee Elci Show that broadcasts on 94.9 FM New London, Connecticut.  I wonder if her Florida address is her permanent residence for tax purposes so as to avoid paying our high taxes in Connecticut? We do not know if she is a full time or part time resident of the state.  Since tax records are not public knowledge we have no way of knowing where she pays her taxes since she has multiple residences.
Is the Boston Consulting Group a Connecticut based corporation?  No it is not.  I have been asked by many people as to why was it chosen for leading the efforts to reopen Connecticut?  Was it political favoritism?  Was it a new example of Ned Lamont's pay to play here in Connecticut?   How did this consulting group become an expert on the Covid-19 virus and the subsequent reopening procedures for Connecticut and other states?  What are their qualifications for this?  In reading their charts and position papers one should become very concerned as to what these "experts" write about.  Quoted from this article (https://www.bcg.com/en-us/publications/2020/lessons-from-asia-economic-recovery-post-covid-19.aspx) "It is a fallacy that in Western economies such dynamic application of the balance between transparency and privacy is not possible. In Europe and the US, telecom carriers already share (anonymized) data to track people’s movements. In a certain NYC park, an unauthorized gathering of people was detected using this data. However, care is in order: if the balance shifts too far, it will be incredibly harmful. Citizens’ trust will be further broken, and they will take actions (such as leaving the phone at home or not reporting symptoms) to avoid being detected—a disaster for containment efforts."  Note their statement "they will take actions (such as leaving the phone home.."   Are they advocating that all of our movements need to be followed by our government?  It seems like that to me.  Is Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Democrat Party afraid where we might assemble?  Is Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Democrat Party afraid of civil disobedience?  Is Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Democrat Party afraid we might start questioning the lack of transparency in who is really running our state?  These are major issues that need to be addressed before one cent of Taxpayer's Monies are given to the Boston Consulting Group.
Ned Lamont needs to stop treating the citizens of Connecticut as his personal puppets on a string.   He is an indecisive Governor who seems to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of both his actions and constant changes he makes to his executive orders.  He needs to be transparent.  And more importantly he needs to resign.  We need democracy to be restored in Connecticut today before it is too late.

Thanks Bob. Just to show how more this entire dog and pony show is suspect and reflective of a double standard, the following facts are on public record, (and are more than clear).

1) Ms. Nooyi retired from Pepsico in 2018. Shortly thereafter, her and her husband Raj constructed and built the magnificent Florida condominium that you have linked to .The property was constructed through an inter family LLC and then quitclaimed to the couple.

2) On said quitclaim deed, the couple certify themselves as Florida residents.

3) Florida residences are popular for wealthy people as there is a generous “homestead law”, protecting someone’s principal home from just about any kind of legal claim. This is why mobsters have purchase(d) large Florida houses for years in order to protect their assets.

4) Mind us all as well, Florida has no personal income tax. Its not at all uncommon for residents to leave CT and set up house in FL, for this reason. Florida also has no estate taxes.

5) It is a matter of record that Raj Nooyi filed a “certificate of domicile” in Florida last year, where he declares himself as a citizen and resident of Florida.

6) Given 4) and 5), It is hard to imagine that the Nooyis are not filing a joint federal tax return. As you say, it is not possible to view their state filings, but it is also hard to imagine that a large part of their assets and income have not been moved out of the CT microscope, otherwise the ENTIRE expensive purpose of their move would have been defeated. Further, this process is usually fluid, and happens over several years in most cases. One connection has to be destroyed while another takes shape.

7) Now truth be told, I advise on clients wanting to change residence and domicile (a term meaning “intent and state of mind” of residency). We cheer when one “goes over the wall”, for here, taxpayers flee an insatiable tax system in this state that is getting worse and they receive little benefit at large expense. So in that regard, you can’t single out the Nooyis for blame. (EXCEPT THAT when a person sits in a place telling the rest of us WHAT to do and HOW to run our businesses and her actions show where her heart and mind is headed, and then she tells us HOW to live, I HAVE A HUGE ISSUE with that.

8) Also look back in history. The legislators and political leaders who have ever challenged the state revenue system can be counted on the fingers of your left hand.

9) If you are curious, I have filed and paid a state income tax every year that it has been in existence. No secrets. Blue all the way. (Some days, I feel like an idiot).

10) Now this brings my mind to another issue. Several of the players on Ned’s committee (not including Boston Consulting) are from out of state (believe me, we’ll have more on that in the weeks to come). Leaving that wretched mess aside for a moment, since we now live in a virtual-zoom, no personal appearance type of world, HOW do we know FOR SURE that our governmental leaders are all taxpaying residents and are LIVING under the same rules they are making for the rest of us? DON’T YOU THINK that mandatory filing proofs for these folks are NECESSARY, especially as we are now being governed by a group of non-resident social scientists (some who we know are profiting from those decisions?)

Think of it: Government service. A commitment to the state. A fair and less costly tax system. Allegiance to the same. In my case, this will be the FIRST question I am going to ask on anyone wanting my vote.

In closing, it is time for this state to drink some of its own medicine.

It is about time this state got to drink some of its own medicine. This would be a start.
